Registration
There is a morning registration period. Pupils are also registered by a computerised system at every period of the day.
Religious observance
Assemblies regularly include a short act of religious observance which may be led by one of the school chaplains. At the end of Autumn and Spring terms there are short religious services to mark the end of term and celebrate the Christian festivals of Christmas and Easter. Parents are very welcome at the end of term services, details of which are given in the calendar and via the school newsletter website, etc.
Reports
Regular reports on pupils' progress will be given to parents. The reports are only one of the ways in which parents are kept up-to-date with information about pupils’ progress. There are opportunities to get information direct from teachers at Parents’ Evenings. The dates when reports are sent home are given below. These are also shown in the school calendar. The pattern of reporting in 2008-09 will be as follows:
- S1 Interim report 12 December 2008
- S1 Final report 28 April 2009
- S2 Interim report 24 October 2008
- S2 Final report 27 February 2009
- S3 Interim report 4 November 2008
- S4 Interim report 7 October 2008
- S4 Final report 27 January 2009
- S5/6 First interim report 30 September 2008
- S5/6 Second interim report 4 December 2008
- S5/6 Third interim report 13 February 2009
Informal reports on progress or test results in individual subjects will also be sent home from time to time. Parents will normally be asked to sign these to confirm receipt of the information.
Please also see the section headed ‘Parents’ Evenings’.
Resource Centre
Pupils may read or study in the resource centre and may borrow books to take home. Pupils in the lower school (S1 to S3) may borrow one book at a time for up to two weeks. Pupils in the upper school (S4 to S6) may borrow two books. Senior pupils who are carrying out special studies may borrow more books for longer periods. They may also access books from libraries by inter-library loan.
Pupils need to use their Young Scot card as their resource centre card. The resource centre book issuing system is computer based using a bar code scanner to match the pupil’s individual Young Scot bar code with the bar code on the book.
