S
School Council
Pupils have a say in the way the school works through the School Council. This meets regularly throughout the year to discuss issues and concerns raised by pupils and consult the Senior Management Team about these. In turn, the Senior Management Team can consult the Council about school policies, developments and other matters which concern pupils. Each year group has two elected representatives on the Council. Elections for these positions are held in September each year.
School Meals
The school cafeteria provides a range of hot and cold meals and snacks at the morning interval and at lunchtime. There is a separate ‘diner’ selling a range of sandwiches, wraps, crisps, fruit, etc, on the school stage. There is also a Salad Bar. The cost of a typical main meal is £1.50 and £2.50. The cafeteria may also be used by pupils who bring a packed lunch. There are two vending machines selling bottled water (plain and flavoured) and healthy snacks. Pupils taking part in lunch-time activities such as the choirs or other clubs, may be allowed to go for lunch five minutes earlier than the rest of the school, at their teacher's discretion.
Please see also the sections headed Cashless Catering, Free Meals and Young Scot Cards.
School Nurse
The school nurse is in the school regularly to support pupils with identified health care needs. She is available for consultation by pupils and parents by appointment. To make an appointment, please contact the School Office.
Please see also the section headed Health Screening.
Senior Leadership Team
The school's Senior Leadership Team consists of:
Rector Mr William Crossan
Depute Rectors Miss Catherine Cameron, Mr Michael Casey, Mr Sid Gallagher.
The Senior Leadership Team is responsible for formulating and implementing school and education authority policies and for overseeing all aspects of the life and work of the school.
Smoking
Under Scottish government legislation and Argyll and Bute Council policy smoking is not allowed anywhere in the school buildings or in the school grounds. This applies to staff, pupils and visitors to the school. Pupils who are found smoking will be discouraged from doing so by means of punishments and by being required to attend smoking cessation classes organised by the school’s Health Promotion staff.
Study leave
Study facilities are provided in the school during exam periods. During the SQA exams in May, pupils may study at home, with their parents‘ permission, and will be shown on the school register as being on study leave. This does not apply to prelim exams.
Supported Study
Pupils in S4 and above will have the opportunity for extra study in their exam subjects in special supported study classes which are run at the end of the school day. These are supervised by class teachers, who are able to provide additional support in areas of the work which the pupil may be finding difficult. Full details about Supported Study will be given in the school newsletter.
