Athletics Club
Athletics is a strong element in the core physical education programme within Campbeltown Grammar School and the athletics club aims to build on this throughout the school year. In the winter months cross-country running training takes place on Tuesdays after school and annually a group travel to Irvine to compete in the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships in March each year. The school has achieved recent success in this field with Matthew Turner winning Bronze in the boys over 17's event in 2006. On Thursdays at lunchtime Athletics Circuit Training takes place indoors throughout the winter months with the focus here on improving overall fitness for all track and field events. In the summer months when the weather improves Athletics Club meets on a Wednesdays after school and at this time pupils make good use of the track and practice their field events in preparation for the school annual sports day in June. Pupils are also encouraged to represent the school at local and national level with teams travelling to Lochgilphead to their annual sports day and Highland Games in Oban as well as national school competition in Grangemouth.
