English

Welcome to the English Department of Campbeltown Grammar School, where our twin goals are achievement and attainment for all.

The team boasts superb pupil – teacher relationships, embedded in a purposeful and orderly working atmosphere, clearly focused on ‘Success for All’.

The current team members Mr. Bryce, Mr. Corr, Mr Craigon, and Mrs MacGregor, offer a comprehensive spectrum of English provision, from S1 to S6, and enhance pupil progression in the middle school through the implementation of Access 3 courses in English and Media Studies.

We liaise closely with Support for Learning colleagues to ensure appropriate provision.

We also pride ourselves on our strong, generic, cross-curricular links with the Art, History, and Music Departments – which enable team members to relate texts to their particular historical period – and with our Primary School colleagues. We also have regular access to a first-rate, school library facility.

We run a Creative Writing club, not only improving pupils’ ongoing writing skills, but also affording them the opportunity of participating - and doing well – in various National Creative Writing competitions, including, The Pushkin Prizes.

Visiting theatre groups provide curriculum- based workshops and performances for pupils school-wide and we also organise an annual theatre trip for pupils to give pupils the live experience of drama.

All of our pupils are encouraged, not only to participate in their own learning as active partners, but to take on responsibility for it as part of the ‘Learning For Life’ initiative which, in conjunction with ‘A Curriculum For Excellence’ and ‘Assessment is for Learning’, permeate and are the main drivers for all of the team’s work in the Department.
