The Fire Doors are there to prevent the spread of smoke and flames if there were to be a fire. It means the doors have to be quite heavy, with strong springs. Make sure you open them or hold them open ONLY USING THE HANDLES. DO NOT hold the edges of the doors with your fingers, or try to stop them closing by holding the edges, as this creates the risk of injury.

Smoking in Girls’ Toilets
A number of girls have been smoking in the girls’ toilets between classes. This is against the law as well as being against the school rules.
Those caught smoking inside the buildings can be prosecuted and fined. If this practice continues the girls’ toilets will be locked other than at intervals and lunchtimes.
Pupils should not go to the toilets or the cloakrooms between classes in any case, but should go straight from one class to the next. Staff have been instructed to monitor late-coming to classes and to refer to House Heads anyone arriving late particularly if they smell of smoke.
