Religious Education
All pupils benefit from Religious and Moral Education. A core subject undertaken by all pupils once a week from S1 through to S4.
Religious Education is taught by Mr Wilson, who is committed to developing in pupils a positive inclusive outlook towards differing faiths and beliefs. These are attributes that our young people will need in modern Scotland’s multi-cultural and multi-faith society.
Four major religions – Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and Islam – are covered through S1 to S2, with third and fourth year pupils undertaking SQA units that focus on current social issues. These are currently Intermediate 1-2 ‘Justice in the World, Global Solidarity’ at S3, and Intermediate 1-2 ‘Making Moral Decisions’ in S4.
Pupils are encouraged to develop their own beliefs and attitudes and appreciate moral values such as honesty, fairness and concern for others.
Important cross-curricular skills – describing, interpreting and evaluating – are embedded within class activities in order to build on skills learnt throughout the school, boosting pupils’ confidence and self esteem.
