Home Economics - Parental Information P7-S1
Before starting in the Home Economics Department you could greatly assist your child by allowing them to carry out some very simple kitchen tasks.
The following could be included:
- Knowing the difference between a washing up cloth and a cloth for drying the dishes
- Washing, drying and returning dishes to the correct place
- Using a vegetable knife, peeler and greater safely
- Peeling potatoes and other vegetables
- Using scales, measuring jugs and spoons to weigh ingredients
- Simple baking tasks such as sieving and mixing
Whilst all these tasks form part of the S1 Curriculum, practising these will allow your child's confidence in the subject to be developed.
All equipment will be provided by the department this includes; tea towels, cloths and aprons.
Pupils can opt into a scheme which provides containers to carry food home. The only container your child will require is one which will safely contain soup. It would be helpful if this is labelled with his or her name.
