Scottish Learning Festival 2008

The Scottish Learning Festival is the only annual conference and exhibition of its size and kind in Scotland. The Scottish Learning Festival 2008 is bursting at the seams with more than 170 seminars, a range of fringe activities and up to 200 exhibitors in a packed two-day programme of events.

Chinese New Year 2008

Next Friday (7 February) is the beginning of the Chinese New Year 2008 and it offers a host of language-learning and cultural opportunities for teachers.

Scottish International Summer School

Developing Excellence in School Leaders: Connecting ideas and practice - Monday, 28 July - Friday, 1 August 2008, Edinburgh, Scotland

The second Summer School, organised by the Scottish Government, will focus on ways to further improve the leadership capacity in our Scottish schools.

Scottish Learning Festival

The Scottish Learning Festival is the biggest educational event in Scotland and takes place at the SECC in Glasgow on 19 and 20 September.

Association for Media Education in Scotland - Conference

"Media Education and the Democratic Intellect: Media Literacy in Curriculum for Excellence" - the annual conference of AMES.

Keynote speakers are Keir Bloomer, educationist and former chief executive of Clackmannanshire council, Professor Geoff Lealand, Associate Professor of Screen and Media Studies, University of Waikato, New Zealand and Rick Instrell, freelance media education consultant.

The conference seeks to revive the democratic spirit evident in the Enlightenment notion of the Democratic Intellect as well in documents such as the Advisory Council’s 1947 Secondary Education report. The keynote speakers will explore the idea that A Curriculum for Excellence will only succeed if there is a democratic revolution in the governance and management of Scottish education.
